It Makes Sense to Add AdSense to Your Blog

Google AdSense is easy to install on a web page or blog and
constitutes additional source of income without spending anything. You
have to apply on-line for Google AdSense Program and generally
approval comes from Google within two days. Those having AdWord
account can use AdWord e-mail address and password for AdSense account
also. After acceptance of application, Google confirms creation of
your Adsense account thru e-mail. You get a code for AdSense text ads
and another code for AdSense search. These codes are to be installed
on web page or blog and within minutes the page will start displaying
ads from Google, and a Google search bar. AdSense is available in
dozen languages worldwide.

The code for AdSense can be placed on any of your web pages. I think
placing it on your blog will give you distinct advantage because blogs
have several points in their favor. They are easily indexed by search
engines. Recently two of my simple blogs were indexed by Google within
2-3 days of submission of URL's which I think is quite fast. With
Yahoo! it is even easier - just add the URL of your blog to your My
Yahoo page and Yahoo! will start accessing it immediately. GoogleAlert
is a free tool that can be used to know when your blog is indexed by
Google.

You can have your blog up and running in minutes free of cost from
several sites that provide this service. I personally use blogger.com.
With blogs you do not need to worry about designing websites,
registering domain name or hiring web hosting service. You simply
write your content on the blog and it is ready for publication.

With Adsense wide range of options is available - number of ads for
display, shape and size of display, color schemes. More than 200
colors are available from which you can choose color for border,
background and text. 24 pre-set color palettes are readily available;
in addition you can have your own custom-palette to match with the
color scheme of your web page. Similarly color schemes are available
for Google search bar.

When the web page is opened, Google ads are placed which match with
the content of the page and are highly relevant. Google finds right
ads for the web page from 100,000 AdWord advertisers.

Several options are available for the ads that you would like to be
displayed on your page. Ad filters can be activated which will block
up to 200 URL's which you do not want to show on your page. You may
like to filter away ads from your competitors. You can even choose
your own default ads for display. Google uses sensitive content
filters to prevent display of sensitive material. If you find that
your page is not really getting relevant ads, it may be time to look
critically at the content of the page, particularly the keywords used
in text, links and tags. Little SE optimization of the page should
resolve this problem.

Sometimes Google places public service ads when no target ads are
available. To suppress public service ad, it is possible to specify
your own image ad or HTML page ad which will appear in place of public
service ad. This ensures that some ad is always present there. Or, if
you like, the space reserved for Adsense ads can be made to collapse.

AdSense tracker is another useful feature which tracks the ads on your
pages and generates report from you. The reports can be customized
based on requirement. Typically reports can give page impressions
displayed, number of clicks and click-thru rates. It is also possible
to check earnings any time.

Web page owner can make use of all these facilities and try to get
best results. With the help of Ad tracker lot of useful information
can be obtained - which ads are doing well, which color combination
gets better results, which location of the web page is best for
showing ads and so on. This analysis can be used to improve traffic as
well as click-thru rates.

With AdSense you have virtually nothing to lose. If you have not yet
installed AdSense on your website you can perhaps give it a thought.
Any free space which can be created on your website to accommodate
AdSense can be used to generate additional income.

Two Imperative Keys To Profitable Pay Per Click Marketing

Pay per click marketing is one of the simplest and fastest ways
of sending targeted traffic to any website. Whether you are
trying to send visitors to your own website, sell a product
online, or build an opt in email list, pay per click marketing
has been a guaranteed way to see instant traffic results.

But there is one major problem with pay per click marketing that
many individuals have. This problem has been a recurring problem
for the past 5 years and it’s getting worse every minute of the
day. This problem involves the over excessive cost and non-
profitability that occurs when marketing through pay per click
search engines. Many marketers deplete their income extremely
fast when marketing online through pay per click engines. They
set up a pay per click campaign, and within 24 hours , all of
their money is drained with no sales, and no leads gained at all.
After having this occur, the marketer ends up giving up on pay
per click marketing and establishes in his heart that pay per
click advertising is the most unprofitable form of advertising on
the web today.

This scenario occurs every single day and many marketers give up
on marketing their websites because of these tragic results. I
was one of these individuals. I spent countless dollars on paid
advertising solutions like pay per click search engines and I set
up in my heart that I was never going to pay for advertising
again. If you lost over $500 in one day from a paid advertising
method like pay per click marketing, you will feel the same way!
I was determined to find other alternatives for marketing online.

But I decided to read a lot of information from other marketers
who were having great success online marketing via pay per click
search engines. I tried to extract as much information as I can
from them on how to market online using ppcs. I kept enquiring
and enquiring about their tactics until I came up with a few key
concepts that will help anyone immediately profit using pay per
click engines!

These key concepts have nothing to do with the pay per click
search engine themselves. As a matter of fact, don’t even think
about the various ppc engines on the web today. Your major
concern right now is to make money using this form of
advertising. And the only way you can do this now is by
discovering highly profitable and hidden keyword phrases that
will generate income for months to come.

Here is what I learned:

1. Find Hidden Keywords With High Search Volume and Low
Competition:

This is one of the most important keys to profiting using ppc
engines. Your goal should be to find keywords with a high search
demand, but with a small amount of internet advertisers marketing
with that keyword.

Why?

Because the smaller the competition, the lesser your bid will be
for that particular keyword. For example, if you are using google
adwords to market your site, and you notice that there are only 7
advertisers marketing for a particular keyword, then you can bid
for the lowest amount of .05 per click while at the same time
being on the first page! You will have the opportunity to send a
lot of traffic to your site and at the same time, increase the
return on your investment (ROI). It is a beautiful feeling when
you can find these types of keyword gems. I just recently
discovered a keyword that gets over 1,500 searches a day and the
number one bid is only .06 with 3 competing websites only!! I
used the tool below to do this:

http://www.free-traffic-generation.com/adwordiser/

2. Generate Hundreds Of These Hidden Keyword Gems:

The next key is to find as many of these hidden keywords as you
can. If you can find at least 500 hidden keywords to market your
business with, you’ll find great success with pay per click
marketing. And I am very serious when I say this. There are a lot
of hidden niches and keywords that you can use to instantly send
thousands of visitors daily to your website. As soon as you find
these keywords, you can do a number of things to guarantee
profits. One thing that I always do is set up a niche specific
lead capture page that includes google adsense on it. (Ha!! I
can’t believe I just gave you one of my most valuable secrets for
earning income online! Well, take note of this, and use it to
your advantage!)

Well, you’ve just discovered the 2 most important keys for being
successful with pay per click marketing. I highly suggest that
you take into account these two keys if you expect to generate a
nice supply of targeted, yet cheap and profitable traffic. But I
have to warn you about something. Discovering these keyword gems
can take a lot of time. If you have a lot of time to spend, then
go and do all of the research yourself. If you do not have a lot
of time, then I highly recommend that you pick up this resource
that will help you to instantly find these profitable keywords.

PPC ClickFraud: It's a Bigger Problem then You Think

Pay per click search engine advertising is one of the
most popular ways to promote a website. With Overture
and Google leading the pack, the industry as a whole
has grown immensely in the past few years. According
to a report by PriceWaterHouseCoopers, they estimate
that Internet Advertising brought in more than $9
billion in 2004 alone.

With PPC advertising you choose "keywords/phrases,"
then bid how much you'd like to pay for each click.
When a searcher goes to a search engine and types
in one of your keyphrases, your short text ad appears,
and if they click on it your account is then charged.
In a "perfect world" this is the way it would work,
but thanks to unscrupulous people, there's a dirty
little secret known as "click fraud."

Click fraud is simply the act of clicking on ads
for the direct purpose of costing the advertiser
money. It's similar to paying out cash for false
leads. According to InternetWeek.com, 60% of those
who responded to a survey conducted by the "Search
Engine Professional Organization" had stated that
fraud is a problem when it comes to PPC advertising.

So where does click fraud come from? Well, there
are actually a few different sources:

1) AdSense Users: Google Adsense has a program
called "Adsense" that pays website owners to
run their Adwords ads and compensates them per
click. Google does monitor this and it's against
their terms of service to click on any of the
ads on your own site. If they find a publishers
doing this, they will lose their accounts, but
some may still be clicking under the radar.

2) Your Competitors: Your competitors could be
clicking on your ads over a period of several
days in order to deplete your ad budget.

3) Software: There are those who use automated
clicking tools, such as robot programs, to
click on PPC listings.

In some Asian countries, people are often paid to
click on PPC ads for hours. Many don't know why
they do it, and don't care, only that they'll be
well rewarded for their efforts. If you do a search
on any search engine you'll see plenty of sites
looking to hire people for just this purpose. For
more on this see...http://tinyurl.com/2ka5g

Most PPC networks have measures in place to protect
you against click fraud. Overture tracks more than
50 data points, including IP addresses, browser info,
users' session info and what they call "pattern
recognition." They have a "proprietary system" in
place for detecting fraud and a specialized team
that monitors things and works with the advertisers
to stop it.

Google offers suggestions to avoid click thru fraud,
such as "using negative keywords" to keep your ads
from showing up for products and services that are
unrelated. They also suggest adding tracking url's
to your links so you can track the traffic coming
from Google. An easy way to do this is to add a ?
to your links along with the identifier. For example,
a tracking link to identify Google would look like
this:

http://www.yourdomain.com/?referer-google

If you go through your log files, you'll be able to
see your Google traffic at a glance.

If you suspect fraud, Google asks that you contact
them right away, as they have a team of researchers
that will investigate. They also take action to block
future impressions from anyone they identify as
committing click fraud. Like Overture, they also have
"proprietary technology" that distinguishes between
normal clicks and invalid ones. Google never bills
you for any "bad clicks" that are caught by their
system.

So what's an honest website owner to do? You need
to be alert to any "suspicious activity" by
researching your server logs or stats. If you're
experiencing a lot of clicks and no sales you'll
also want to take a closer look. You need to watch
for any spikes in traffic, usually on one keyword
or phrase and coming from only one PPC source. You
need to measure and track all of your PPC accounts
closely.

If this sounds like too much work, you may want to
look at an outside service to take care of it for
you. A variety of new services have opened recently
to help combat the click fraud problem.

1) Keyword Max: http://www.KeyWordMax.com

Offers up a service called "Click Auditor," which
monitors the activity on your PPC accounts and
alerts you to any suspicious activity. You can
request a free demo at the site.

2) Click Detective: http://ClickDetective.net

A website monitoring service that uses sophisticated
tracking mechanisms to determine whether "visitor
behavior" is normal or not. Offering a 15 day free
trial. Easy to use, you just copy and paste a snippet
of code on your page and add a campaign ID by logging
into your account.

3) Click Assurance: http://ClickAssurance.com

An Internet Security Firm that specializes in click
fraud. They will audit your PPC accounts and go
after any refunds you are due because of fraud.

4) Who's Clicking Who: http://WhosClickingWho.com

An independent auditing service that tracks individual
users for fraud. Can also detect abuse coming from
proxy servers. A one month subscription is
$79.00, which includes free installation and up to
50,000 transactions per month.

5) ClickLab: http://ClickLab.com/products/click-fraud

This service isolates bad clicks with a scorecard
based detection system. Pricing starts at $50.00
per month and is based on the number of sites you
need to track and their page views.

ClickLab also has a nice white paper you should
download while visiting: "How to Defend Your Website
Against Click Fraud."

Click fraud isn't going away anytime soon. If
anything, it will probably get worse before it
get's any better. It's up to you as a vigilant
website owner to do what you can to keep your
PPC advertising costs down. You can't stop it,
but with the right tracking in place, it can be
managed and controlled, and hopefully kept to a
minimum.

Google Adsense Explained

The Rise and Fall of Affiliate Programs

Affiliate programs were once a great source of online revenue, a
savvy webmaster with an eye for marketing could easily parley a
site into a money making machine with a little luck and effort.
However, the evolution and growth of the Internet has hampered
the growth of fortune making affiliate programs. Constant search
engine algorithm changes, along with the search engine's clear
distaste for sites participating in affiliate programs; have
made it a little more difficult to earn a healthy affiliate
revenue. An influx in the use of software programs that
terminate cookie tracking and privacy programs that prevent
webmasters from tracking referrers, have also hindered the
affiliate sales channel. While it is still possible to make
money through affiliate marketing, other alternatives ought
to be considered.

A Healthy Alternative or Supplement

Google's Adsense program allows approved websites to dynamically
serve Google's pay-per-click Adword results. This has become a
popular alternative and an effective revenue sharing program
for webmasters. Google's spider parses the adserving website
and serves ads that relate to the website's content. While the
Google's Adsense program still has some issues, they are making
efforts to improve it.

The website maintenance related to Adsense is very easy and
requires very little effort. Webmasters need only to insert
javascript into the webpage or website template. The javascript
calls the ad from Google and will ensure that ads are served
each time a visitor goes to the webpage. If the visitor clicks
one of the Adsense ads served to the website, the website owner
is credited for the referral.

The implementation, while simple, has its drawbacks. Google
dictates the format of the ads. Webmasters can select from a
handful of preformatted text boxes that lack creativity. A
recent improvement allows webmasters to modify the ad boxes
to resemble the website's color scheme. Still, a far cry from
some of the creative ads webmasters are accustom to.

The example below reflects how the color scheme can be modified
to match the look of the website, but the ads physically don't
fit well into the overall website design.

sample modified to match sites color scheme:

Google determines the content of the ads that are shown/
Sometimes the ads are poorly targeted, and of no interest
to the website visitors.

Adwords can be a great addition to a website, and when well
matched to the content the revenue stream from Google is
consistent and effortless.

sample of effective Adsense program:

http://www.small-business-software.net (scroll to the bottom)

Not that the Google Adsense program is not without its problems,
as the reporting provided by Google is lacking. Google has only
recently implemented channels as a way to track multiple sites
that serve ads. The general reporting simply shows the number of
ads served, the percentage of clicks received, and the revenue
earned each day. Google does not disclose the amount of the
revenue they share, what percentage of the revenue they earn and
what someone can expect to receive for each click. Webmasters
with multiple sites will have difficulty determining which
websites are producing the money in the Adsense program.

With affiliate programs many webmasters implement a new browser
launch with each click off the site, Adsense removes the visitor
from the website and there is not currently an option to launch
the visitor into another browser.

Early on Google implemented a filtering system that allowed
webmasters to prevent a specific domain's ads from being served
on the website. Ad blocking meant that webmasters could prevent
their competitors ads from being dynamically served on their
website.

Overall, adwords are great supplements to websites where
affiliate programs are either not performing or when affiliate
programs don't exist that target the sites content.

Give it a Try

Implementing and maintaing Google Adsense program on a content
site requires very little effort and can often bring a steady
stream of additional revenue for webmasters. Consider
supplementing content and see what happens.
